Today i am reviewing the Xiaomi Mi MIX, a Smartphone with a 6.4 inches which covers 83, 6% of the surface of Smartphone. This is a Smartphone that will cost quite a bit. It’s going to be packed with cool little technologies and we’ll discover all that in our test.
Xiaomi Mi Mix Review
The Mi MIX is very impressive. Composed of ceramic and glass, its screen covers more than 83% of the surface . Although its edges a few millimeters are present on the top and sides, it is indeed a small revolution in the world of Smartphone.
Its designer who is nothing but Philippe Starck has dropped a bit on YouTube.
In 2017, smartphones without borders should even follow suit, but Xu announced its pro set: a borderless smartphone on all sides. Samsung also announced that its Galaxy S8 would take 90% of its surface. If some speak of lack of innovation, Xiaomi has the merit of releasing a Smartphone of this type which is undoubtedly the most impressive ever released by the brand.
For now only available in black version, it sports a 6.4-inch screen , which makes it a little larger than an ordinary 5.7-inch smartphone, but smaller than a Mi Max over 6 Inches.
Comparing it to the Mi Note 2, Smartphone with fine, curved edges, it is practically as thick with a thickness of 79 mm , but as its edges are less rounded, it seems wider. Fortunately, its roundness on the sides and the soft ceramic touch ensure very good grip. Its weight and fragile finish can make you very big frights.
The screen is an IPS type LCD panel; No OLED like on the Mi Note 2 which allowed it to have a very bright and very contrasted screen. It still remains very bright for this type of screen.
In this smartphone, everything is very big. Even if we only regret a Full HD screen of type 17 x 9, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 , 621 chips , 6 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage, enough to film in 4 K for a very long time.
At the rear, there is the non-ultrasonic fingerprint reader and a 16 mega pixel camera . At the front, only a photo sensor on the bottom; No luminosity sensor, but proximity that works by ultrasound. No loudspeaker either, but a piezoelectric system that will send the sound by mechanical vibration.
The effect is quite correct without being bluffing. One might think that the loudspeaker is simply inside the smartphone, but these are rather innovative things and that is a plus.
The other good news is the sound of the loudspeaker at the bottom. Its quality is much better than on the other models of the Mi range. It nevertheless remains in mono. We still have the microphone on his left.
On the top, we find the jack and two small discrete holes. I do not know if they allow the antennas to better capture, because it can allow the ultrasonic or piezoelectric sensor to function better. But that’s beyond my abilities and I have not found anything about it. For the rest, as it is a smartphone all glass and ceramic, the buttons are also. Let’s go through the case.
View the Xiaomi Mi MIX on GearBest
What we find is a black box where are stored three arrangements that open accordion. The first contains the Smartphone, the second contains a faux leather case that looks sturdy and holds quite well, and the latter contains two boxes: one for the USB type C and the QuickCharge 3.0, the other a booklet In Chinese and the SIM pin.
Inside the smartphone, the startup is fast thanks to the 6 GB of RAM. With its processor, the whole is largely powerful enough to run all the games of the market in a fluid way. For that price it’s normal!
The unlocking time by capture of impression remains in the norm and the navigation there is as one can suspect very fluid. Many Mi Wire Overlay services have been adapted for the Mi MIX.
First, no physical or tactile buttons. The navigation bar will be able to activate or deactivate according to the wishes in order to be able to take advantage of the whole screen. A touch assistant, although I personally find little useful, will allow you to find action buttons and quick shortcuts in a floating button. The photo application will advise you to return your Smartphone in case of selfie.
These developments will mainly affect the ergonomics of the Mi MIX since in the end the material specs of the components that are found in almost all high-end Xiaomi models.
In normal use, the Smartphone is used without too many problems. Despite its size, writing and navigating the interface Mi Wi 2 is quite nice. Many Mi Wi services I describe in the previous videos – Mi 5S plus, Mi Note 2, etc. – are always present: Mi Cloud, one-handed mode, cloning of applications, security applications, optimization of the battery, etc.
Received unlocked, I added the ROM Xiaomi.U, an alternate ROM update regularly is based on the Chinese DEL ROM which includes all the modifications and optimizations and patches. I explain the procedure in description.
Outdoors, the photos remain correct, but not at all at the same level as a Mi 5S with an ultra pixel sensor and a Mi Note 2 with a sensor of 22.5 megapixels. There is a slight blur when the image is 100% and it is a pity.
At the video level, the 4K recording works, but it does not make a miracle either. It is well indicated 30 fps, but on reading, one does not feel fluidity. For consolation, close-up images with stabilizer and HDR appear a little sharper and although there are blurry concerns in general, the colors are rather well transcribed.

My opinion about the Xiaomi Mi mix
At first glance, the Mi Mix appears a bit like a “proof of concept” on the part of Xiaomi. A way to show their power in innovation. To show that they are part of the big ones in the smartphone market. And it’s a success, the Mi Mix made a sensation and probably foreshadows the screen of tomorrow.
It must be admitted that it is highly desirable! If one excepts some basic flaws such as a size that does not fit all hands and some improvement to wear to the particular photo, it is a real flagship capable of differentiating you from the mass . Indeed, not everyone can afford it! It costs 786 € on GearBest . By the way, I highly recommend GearBest to buy this kind of high-tech products, their seriousness is no longer to prove.
